I see your old IPhone bitcoin ticker app and raise you my android app CryptoClocks, a fully user customizable ad free ticker app that turns your old android into a pretty crypto clock

Hi guys I saw that iPhone ticker app and thought you might like my app CryptoClocks.
It basically turns your old android device into a pretty table clock with crypto currency tickers.
It comes with two presets but you can design your own CryptoClocks screen by creating themes using the theme creator. Which you can preview and share with your friends as well.
You can pick what crypto currencies you want as well from 2 supported exchanges and coinmarketcap.
And of course all of this is ad free.
Here are a few screenshots for you.

I got tired of using a spreadsheet for calculating DCA, so i made an android app

I'm a hodler, and i made this for my own personal use, but half way through i realized it could be useful to others that do DCA, and with just a little more work i could make it store worthy, so i went ahead and did it. It's free, with no limits on time or the number of things it can store, but i did add some extra features for purchase so i could maybe make a few bucks from it. More about that in a minute.
Here's a play store link: DC Averagizer Sorry no iphone or windows version right now.
It's not that i hate using excel or anything, it's just that my DCA buys have become less exciting and more of a standard procedure when i see a dip. I don't spend all day looking at charts anymore, and i don't need to over complicate things. I just wanted the quick convenience of a dedicated app.
I did look for other apps in the store, are there are a bunch, but none of the ones i tried were very suited to crypto. They were cluttered with other investing features, and only showed 2 decimal places, among other issues. So i figured the only way to get exactly what i want is to make it myself.
So this app does one thing and one thing only, it calculates my DCA and stores the info for all my crypto buys and sells. And it always shows all values to the eighth decimal place. I made two sections. One for doing quick calculations with just the price and quantity. And another "portfolio" section that stores all the relevant info, like coin name, ticker, currency, buy/sell dates, and a note section in case i want to enter what exchange it's on or what wallet it's stored in.
I know most of the free world loves dark themes, so i made the default theme be dark. But i'm no artist, so if you think it looks god awful, i added other theme options as a "pro unlock". I made bitcoin and ethereum themes using some of their official colors, and i also made a theme customizer so you can make it look however you want. And the pro unlock also includes backup and restore, because i don't want to loose all the data if i get a new phone or have to reset my phone.
As far as security, there really isn't much to worry about, because it's not meant to store passwords, private keys, credit card numbers, or anything else like that. But just to be perfectly clear, DON'T STORE YOUR PRIVATE KEYS IN THE NOTES. Always be safe and smart with your keys, passwords, etc. There's no reason to store that stuff in an app like this, it's just a calculator.
And while i've got your attention, i just want to say that you should never store private keys or seed words digitally, and never take a picture of them. Especially if you use a ledgetrezor. The point of a hardware wallet is that the keys are never exposed to your computer and it's viruses, the keys only exist on the internal circuitry of the device and on paper as a backup. Typing those words into a computephone defeats the whole purpose of using a hardware wallet in the first place. (i'm very security conscious, so feel free to chat me up about that if you want. i won't consider it thread hijacking or anything)
Okay back to the app. If you use the backup feature, then obviously it will need storage permission, but you can revoke that permission right after you save your backup and it will not affect the app in any other way. And it will only ask for that permission if you actually try to use backup/restore.
Again, i started this project for my own personal use, and it does everything i need it to do, but if any of you decide to check it out and find an important feature missing, just let me know and i'll consider updating it. And of course if you find any bugs, i'll try to fix them asap.

I'm wondering if anyone else would be interested in this?

So a little background here. I am a programmer by trade (I also own an arcade called 1984, but that isn’t overly relevant). I decided to jump into the whole cryptocurrency thing since 1) I just enjoy reading about things, 2) I keep hearing the phrase “blockchain” and it was time to get up to speed on that, and 3) some outfit in the same building as my office has put together some crypto coin offering.
Obviously I’m fascinated with bitcoin now, not only as a currency but as a technology, and I bought in, a little, at about 9400. As it turns out it’s fun to check the current asking price and see how things are going and so on…. Except that I began to get a little nervous about leaving my balance just sitting there in Coinbase, so I moved it to Electrum on my desktop. Then I got a little nervous about THAT and ordered a hardware wallet, which should show up in a day or so. But this causes a problem!
Without my balance sitting in Coinbase, there’s no easy way to check what my bitcoin is actually WORTH. I can watch the trade numbers go up and down, that’s fun, but I have to pull out my calculator and type in a bunch of numbers to get what my USD value equates to. And being the greedy bastard that I am, I want to know that amount.
I found a link to an online calculator (https://www.coindesk.com/calculator) that lets you type in your amount and it automagically shows you what your current USD value is, but you have to type the numbers in every time you want to check. There’s no instant gratification to it.
What I wanted was an app that I could type my current bitcoin amount into, and it would pull down the latest trading numbers and show me on the fly what my current USD value is. The next time I launched the app I wanted it to remember what my bitcoin amount is. I did NOT want it connected to any kind of wallet, for security reasons and lazy reasons. Better still if I could watch the fluctuations, like a ticker.
I looked around for an app, and while I found a number of ticker apps, there didn’t seem to be anything that did what I wanted. So I wrote one. The screen shot is it running on Xcode’s iPhone simulator.
https://www.1984support.com/sshot.jpg
My questions are: would anyone else be interested in this? Should I take the time to submit it to the Apple Store, move the code over to Android, etc, or should I just slap a development provisioning profile on it and let it only live on my phone? I also have a desktop version running, both in OS X and Windows. Would anyone be interested in that?

Apps Updated for iPhone X Resolution

Just wanted to start a place where we can accumulate all of the known Apps that have been updated for the new iPhone X resolution. I don't know how well it will work, but my goal is to keep this main post updated with the Apps provided in the comments. I was validating each of them, but due to the number and struggle to keep up, I’m just taking new submissions for what they are (name and all). Help others by listing the full app name found in the App Store.

Here's the current alphabetized list:

Had a 2 week gap between my last job and my new job so I made it a goal to learn iOS development and get an app published on the App Store, thus Coin Trade Alerts was born

CHECKOUT THE FOLLOWUP POST HERE
AFTER WORKING NON-STOP FOR THE LAST 3 DAYS I HAVE FINISHED THE NEW WEBSITE! THE WEBSITE OFFERS THE SAME FEATURES AS THE MOBILE APP (FOR ALL YOU NON IPHONE USERS!) AS WELL AS INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO SET UP THE ALERTS LOCALLY ON YOUR OWN MACHINE IF YOU DO NOT TRUST THE APP (WHICH I FULLY UNDERSTAND). ALL FUTURE UPDATES WILL FIRST BE DEPLOYED ON THE WEBSITE AND LATER THE IOS APP
http://cointradealerts.com
I want to make sure you all know from the start this is 100% free to use. There are no advertisements/monetization whatsoever. I built this because it's something that I've been using for a few months and thought that I could strengthen my personal skill set and build out for others to enjoy.
http://cointradealerts.com/
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/coin-trade-alerts/id1329306758?ls=1&mt=8
It's a pretty simple app really. You create a view only API key, plug it into the app, add your phone number, and then you never have to open the app again. It will send you a text message when your orders fill. (It will work for all GDAX products)
Here's exactly how it works:
1) Generate view only API key (this allows the app to read your completed orders).
2) Provide your phone numbecarrier (so I can build your contact email i.e [email protected])
3) The app will make a request every 60 seconds and record the number of completed orders you have in a database. Every time it checks, it will see if there's a difference in the numbers. If there is, it will build a message with information from that many of your most recent fills (something like buy: X TICKER at $Y total: $Z)
I originally wrote most of the backend Python of this a few months ago and I've been running it on my Raspberry PI and sending me a text when my limit orders fill. The main reason why I wrote this is because I thought it was something crucial that other services didn't offer, and being a Software Engineer I could do quite easily. A bunch of my coworkers who were also into trading cryptocurrency on GDAX really wanted to use it so initially I was just giving them the code but then I decided that since i've always wanted to have an app under my name on the App Store and learn Swift, this would be the perfect opportunity.
I have all of the code publicly visible on my Github HERE! The backend API is a flask web server running on an AWS EC2 Instance. The Database is an AWS RDS MySQL database. I've been using Flask for about 2 years and I never really thought that it could be practical for iOS development. It really surprised me how well it worked.
Although my code is publicly visible and I am only reading your completed orders, there is obviously a trust level required on your end to give me the API key. Nobody here knows who I am and I fully understand that!
If you provide anything more than VIEW ONLY your API key CAN be used to transfer your money/coins and steal them.
If anyone does not feel comfortable doing so, you are more than welcome to use the previous version of this code and run it locally on your machine. This means that you are entering your API credentials locally on your own machine.
I am in the process of building out the website, which will include instructions as to how to do the above, as well as provide the same (and more!) functionality that the app does. The website should come out with the base features in a few days and will allow people who don't have iPhones to utilize this tool!
I originally posted about this on /litecoin and /bitcoin yesterday and received such overwhelming support that it was crashing the backend web server of my application. Today I was able to get this sorted out and nobody should experience any problems!
Additionally, I received a lot of great feedback from you guys, which is why I spent quite a few hours yesterday/today building a brand new website that will offer the exact same functionality as the mobile app, but in your browser! I plan on deploying in the days to come. I will be adding all user requests to the website as well.
What's currently on my todo list: 1) Security alerts! I had a phenomenal request from /swingvitamin to set up alerts when transfers/instant purchases are made on your account to try and combat account theft. I think this was an awesome idea and I will be working to bring this out ASAP!

Die rand is kak

So the bitcoin network starts off 2016 much stronger than it entered 2015. With over a billion $ in startup investment capital. It is crazy to realize that it is worth R111,415,577,100 in valuation (amount of coins multiplied by freemarket price) and this is just the beginning. Compare this to standard bank at R188,4B especially if you consider they are down about 40% in the past year where bitcoin is up 533% since 2013, and up 61% in the last 6 months.
1 bitcoin = R7404
Crazy you might say.. no. Go look up what quantitative easing is. Hint: The banks have been creating trillions, devaluing your savings.
Bitcoin's processing power is now at 832,017,286,000,000,000 SHA256 hashes per second. This is what work it requires to mine bitcoin, what makes it secure and why we trust it more than some database in someone's vault that they can go edit if they please. This is real measurable energy consumption. Almost like digging up gold, just more humane.
With 6 months left till the amount of new bitcoins mined halves to 12.5BTC per 10mins. We'll be entering the realm of sub 5% yearly monetary base inflation. This means instead of R788,400,000 worth of bitcoin created per month it will become only R394,200,000 worth per month newly issued. This new cycle will run for 4 years, like the last, before it halves again, and again. Until eventually in 140 years from now we have the last bit of bitcoin at 21million BTC. 21,000,000.000,000,000 should be enough for everyone.
I've used rands so people can understand the scale of this thing a bit better. The exchange rates change over time according to free markets.

Interview with a Dev : Hilux Coin

Interview with a Dev : Hilux Coin
https://preview.redd.it/uztu8ill8lg11.png?width=128&format=png&auto=webp&s=12593559662df6a618a9e96069f422fe740f9cfa
Hilux is a new coin that was just launched on August 3rd, 2018. Hilux aims to help solve the problem of hyper inflation which many counties like Venezuela are facing.
Hilux specs: Ticker: HLX Algo: x16r Type: MN/POW Max Supply: 21,000,000 MN Collateral: 1000 Block Rewards: 20 HLX (mn 60%, pow 40%) Premine: 5% Block time: 2 minutes
The following is an interview with Swatchie-1 the founder of Hilux Coin.
Could you explain your project Hilux Coin briefly for our readers that are not already familiar with the project?
Currently, FIAT currency is what we use in our day to day transactions. A FIAT currency is a government backed currency (example: US Dollars, British Pounds, Peso, Singapore Dollars) which is not backed by any physical commodity and it derives its value from perceived value by the community. This is why when a Government needs money, it prints as much as it needs causing too much FIAT currency circulation in the market resulting in what we call Hyper-Inflation. Historically we have seen this happening in Venezuela (24000% inflation in the past 12 months, Iran (200%) and South Sudan (110%). The list goes on but based on these 3 countries alone, we see how much buying power is being reduced at a daily basis. What this means is, if an iPhone costs 1 million Venezuelan Bolivar in 2017, it will cost 24 million Venezuelan Bolivar in 2018. See the difference?
The world has found a solution now and it is through Crypto Currencies. The purpose of Hilux Coin is to address this issue and allow a safe, reliable and decentralized transfer of value between anybody in the world who has access to an internet connection. Why is being decentralized important? This is so that no single party can dictate how many Hilux Coins should be produced and to obtain Hilux, one would need to either purchase it or Mine it. Mining takes work, equipment and costs, hence it is not free. Hilux also has a limit of 21 million coins which is not that much considering the population of the entire world.
The mechanics of Hilux Crypto Currency is the opposite of FIAT currencies. It can be traded world-wide with no middleman involved, its limit cannot be increased without consensus from 51% of all miners and Masternode Owners. This system is fair and just because the stakeholders want the best of their investment and should not make irrational decisions that will jeopardize his/her holdings. It is also decentralized which doesn’t allow anybody to come in and shut it down because the Hilux Nodes are running all across the globe. If one country shuts it down, the other nodes will still maintain the Hilux Ledger and can still be connected, hence a Hilux user can still access his or her wallet. We have made sending and receiving Hilux coin easy by providing a Hilux Mobile Web Wallet facility at https://wallet.hiluxcoin.com. This provides access to the unbanked people in the world. For example, a user in South Sudan will be able to send value to their children studying in Singapore through the Hilux Mobile Web Wallet without going to a money changer or Western Union. It is simple to use because the receiver or sender do not need to run a Full-Node of Hilux in order to gain access to a wallet. We also recently have a Discord Hilux Wallet which allows you to send Hilux (HLX) to Discord users too. I suggest readers to check out our discord at: https://discord.gg/gqzpeWH
Could you tell us a little bit about your programming history and experience with blockchain technology?
Our core team has different sets of skill sets including JavaScript, Python, html and pug programming. This allows us to ensure the Blockchain is fair, being as secure as possible and able to build core infrastructures for the Hilux Coin. This includes the Mobile Web Wallet, Mobile Explorer, Official Dev Pool and the website on our own without external funding and programmers. As a result, we are a lean team, with our own initial funding hence we want to see the coin succeed as much as a mother wants to see her child grow into becoming a useful person to the community.
What inspired you to create Hilux Coin?
As aforementioned, there are governments which do not generate FIAT currency responsibly. Before 1933, the US Dollar was backed by Gold. However since then, it was not backed by Gold anymore and we need to address the issue of scarcity and not unlimited money printing. The Hilux Cryptocurrency is a solution for value transfer for the world due to decentralization, scarcity of 21 million HLX only, securely distributed around the world through Masternodes, Miners having to do work to secure the network and low fees of transaction.
There’s been quite a few coins launched in the past year. In your opinion, what sets HLX apart from other coins and makes it unique?
Yes, I’m glad you brought this up. There are two main types of method to build the blockchain at the moment, which is Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS). Proof of stake can also mean using Masternodes to stake. Most coins out there are either PoW or PoS exclusively. However, Hilux uses a combination of both sort of like a Hybrid. We call this Proof of Work and Masternode Hybrid. There are only a handful of Hybrid types out there out of all the coins available in the world.
Secondly, Hilux uses the X16R algorithm for its Proof of Work mechanism. This X16R was invented by Ravencoin and we give them credit for that. It is a combination of 16 algorithms randomly re-arranged at each block hence it is a little more ASIC resistant than other coins such as the X11 used by Dash. The reason why we prefer ASIC resistant coins is to encourage decentralization because normal CPU and GPU owners can use it to mine at reasonable speeds compared to ASIC owners who will obtain high hashrates at lower cost and this displaces the CPU and GPU owners which is not what we want. ASIC causes centralization of hashrates. If the ASIC owner decides to switch off or shift to another Coin, then there is going to be a huge vacuum of hashpower lost which is not healthy for the blockchain.
Third, our distribution of block reward is 20 and out of this, 12 goes to Masternode Owners (60%) and 8 goes to the Miner who solved the block (40%). This is a healthy ratio which encourages Miners to mine and earn their own Masternode which is a good incentive for them. We also did not do any Developer reward program, for example, 5% of the block rewards going into the Developer’s pocket. This is because we are a community coin and there is no one developer controlling Hilux forever. Again this is part of becoming decentralized.
HLX is a Proof of Work (minable) and Masternode coin. I haven’t come across too many coins yet using this combination. The majority are either POW, POS, POS/MN or ERC20 Tokens. Could you explain why you decided to go with the POW/MN format with Hilux Coin?
Yes, we addressed some of this in the previous question. The simple answer again is:
On one hand, it provides incentives for the miners to mine and on the other hand, it encourages Masternode owners to run the full node at all times. This is due to the block reward of 60% Masternode Owners and 40% Miners.
What is your number 1 goal to accomplish with this project?
To see worldwide adoption of Hilux as a community coin where developers from around the globe would contribute to the Github of Hilux and providing commits to improve it. Whether big or small, any improvement is a step forward for Hilux.
We need to continue building infrastructures around Hilux.
Because we now have a stable Blockchain, we can build centralized features around the decentralized blockchain. We cannot however do the opposite which is building a decentralized feature on top of a centralized entity. For example, we can now build a hosted mobile wallet to access the Hilux Blockchain. We can also build a hosted marketplace for trading on top of the blockchain and a mining pool on top of the blockchain. This is where community adoption comes in.
Aside from Hilux, what are some other projects you admire?
I have seen many projects out there which has got nothing to do with the blockchain but are creating a project just for the sake of having a blockchain name attached to their project. These are mostly Utility Tokens. In a simple explanation, Utility Tokens are projects that require a user to buy their tokens to gain access to their project or App. For example, a ride sharing app on the iPhone that requires you to use their token to pay for rides. In my opinion, this is unnecessary because we should be using FIAT to do it and conversion back and forth is a hassle and it doesn’t bring much economic benefit. Also, these projects are highly centralized. If one day the founders decide to close the company, your tokens will be worthless. This is not the case for Hilux where if one day the founders decide to leave, Hilux will still be around.
Back to the question of which projects I admire, it’s going to be Bitcoin. It is the father of all cryptocurrencies and our cryptocurrency is here because of it. However, there is room for more than one cryptocurrency in the market just like there is the US Dollar, Swiss Francs, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar and others.
What do you see as the biggest hinderance to blockchain technology and the use of crypto-currencies advancing?
The usual answer we get for this question is Government Regulation. Governments do not like it when they do not have control of money in their country. This will cause their monetary policy of money printing to go haywire because the citizens have options of cryptocurrencies. But what gave rise to Crypto Currencies was also because of the 2008 financial crisis which caused governments to perform Quantitative Easing (printing of US Dollars). In fact, they did it a few times. That was when people realized cryptocurrency may be an option.
However, government censorship will not be sustainable, hence it is not a long term hinderance. The long term hinderance in my opinion is the existence of Quantum Computers. If this technology becomes a reality and is accessible to people, it may destroy all blockchains and causes centralization. It will be able to mathematically solve all blockchain calculations rendering all semiconductors useless against it. Difficulty of the block will sky rocket and the block will become stuck. Until then developers will need to find a new solution against it.
In your opinion how far away are we from a worldwide adoption of blockchain technology?
We are like in the 1993 era of the Internet. It is still early and anybody who comes in now will be able to ride the wave upwards. Worldwide adoption is already beginning. We just need to make the blockchain easier to gain access to. We are doing exactly that by announcing the Mobile Web Wallet as our first product when we launched.
Are there any additional comments you’d like to add?
Firstly, I would like to thank Coin Space News for allowing me to voice opinions. I hope your readers have gained a little insight on what is the current world situation and what to expect in the future. When we select a Coin to invest in as you rightly pointed out there are many out there, one should look for:
-Scarcity of the Commodity. Hilux has 21 million only -Usefulness of the Commodity. Hilux is easily transferable and has low transaction fees. -Long term sustainability. Hilux will be around even if the founders are not. -Decentralized. No one party holds the key to keeping Hilux alive. -Continuous improvement. Hilux is always building infrastructures.

Any interest in this Monero pricing iOS app?

Hey folks,
I wrote the XMR Ticker app for Mac that some of you around here use:
https://www.reddit.com/Monero/comments/5wz6i1/xmr_ticker_for_mac_new_version/
Tonight I thought about writing a little iOS app that tracks the USD price of XMR in USD from Poloniex, inspired by the visual style of Bitcoinity (where the price animates in an ease in / ease out curve).
I made this concept app (its really rough so please go easy!).
Would there be any interest in an iPhone app like this? If so I might make the effort to pop this on the app store.
If people really like it I could add proper features (like the alerts/triggers I put in the Desktop app), that said Push notifications on iOS are a bit of a faff to implement.
Just trying to gauge interest,
Looks like this:
https://youtu.be/JZSOXHOUfsQ
EDIT1: This only shows the app updating when turned on first, anytime the price updates the price will update in an animated fashion trickling the price up or down.
EDIT2: Please ignore CSI on TV, my missus never gets off the fucking thing.

Current BTC prices are always different between apps/pages I use to track my portfolio.

I am getting started using GDAX to trade BTC and I want an app or portfolio tracker that accurately reflects the current price I see on the GDAX exchange. Unfortunately, every product I try gives me different answers at any moment.
Example: GDAX price is currently 9676.74 but CoinTracker shows 9650.77 while CoinCap on my iPad shows 9639.30 and BitCoin Ticker on my iPhone shows 9494.50. (Granted, it took me a few seconds to look those up and the price may have fluctuated a bit, but that's a huge variation.)
Is there a tracker app or some other way I can more accurately keep up with the GDAX Current Price? Bonus if it has a way to show me what my current portfolio value is in $.

Introducing CryptoCalc

EDIT: free version now out! Search the App Store for "CryptoCalcLite"
I am a 13 year old bitcoin enthusiast and today, I am launching my app, CryptoCalc.
CryptoCalc is a new iPhone and iPod Touch app with a simple, intuitive UI that lets you see the exchange rate fast, and lets you calculate and convert effortlessly in 23 world currencies. Searching “Bitcoin” on the app store, it is inundated with cluttered, complex apps. If one is just trying to price their merchandise for the day, do they really need to know current network hash rate or amount of blocks mined in the last 24 hours or trade volume? Bitcoin apps are so feature rich, that they are not friendly for quick reference! Some may need all that information, and there are better apps for those... but for those of us that just want quick and simple tickers and conversions, there is now an option.
It is CryptoCalc. It offers a simple, clean UI that is perfect for just knowing what you need to know: bitcoin's exchange rate. Converting to bitcoin is easy: just tap the field, and enter the amount in fiat currency. $25 in bitcoin? It is BTC 0.06872, not BTC 0.06872 and 142 blocks mined in 24 hours and 90836 transactions in past day and here's an incomprehensible chart and the hash rate is... No jumping through hoops, no complexity: just simplicity.
The app can be found at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cryptocalc/id919003873?ls=1&mt=8 or by searching “CryptoCalc” in the iOS app store.
I would appreciate any ideas, comments, or feedback as I'm working on the future of CryptoCalc, as well as future Bitcoin apps.
Thanks!

Bitcoin price widget app for iPhone?

So I'm getting used to my new (first) iPhone and missing a few things from Android. Are there any nice, simple Bitcoin price widgets? Something that displays GBP ideally. Bitzazu almost gets it right but the price seems to be $10-15 too high, so not sure what tickeindex it uses.
I like the idea of the price appearing on the app icon, but those apps don't seem to auto update frequently.

Maybe...
Let me know! :) Or I'll have to guess, and I'm bad at guessing...

Questions about actual prices of coins and the Coin Ticker iPhone app

I've been in on bitcoin, litecoin, dogecoin, and vertcoin for a couple of months now, and the prices given to me on the Coin Ticker iPhone app for different coins and exchanges have been worrying me. For instance, the app tells me that on BTC-e, litecoin is sitting at ~$3.00, but when I actually go online and check BTC-e, it shows a price of ~$14.00. A similar phenomenon is happening with the dogecoin. Additionally, the app still treats Mt.Gox as the primary bitcoin exchange, and it's still citing prices from that exchange (it's showing bitcoin at ~$130.00).
Basically my question is, what are the actual prices I should trust? And does anyone know of a better app I can use that serves as a stock tickeportfolio manager for cryptos?
